Are There More Options Than Abortion?

If you’re facing an unplanned pregnancy, you might feel like abortion is your only option. But that’s not true—you have other options, which include parenting and adoption.

Each option comes with its own set of opportunities and challenges, and it’s essential to explore them thoroughly to make the best decision for your future.

Read on to learn more about the essentials you need to know about parenting and adoption, or contact Relevant Pregnancy Options Center to find a safe, supportive space to talk. (All appointments and resources are always free and confidential.)

Parenting

Parenting is a life-changing choice that can bring immense joy and purpose. If you have a heart to parent, it’s important to fully explore this option.

While the idea of parenting likely feels overwhelming—or even impossible—right now, there are resources and support systems available to help you succeed. For example, parenting classes, financial assistance programs, and community support networks can provide you with the tools and confidence you need to raise a child.

At Relevant Pregnancy Options Center, we offer free parenting education and resources for anyone who wants to participate. You can join our “Earn While You Learn/BrightCourse” Parenting Program to earn points for “purchasing” baby and maternity items. Plus, our Baby Boutique allows you to shop for maternity and newborn essentials.

Adoption

Adoption is another option that’s full of choices. If you’re not in a position to parent but still want to give your baby a chance at life, adoption allows you to do just that. Modern adoption plans are incredibly flexible, giving you the ability to decide what level of involvement you’d like to have in your child’s life.

Adoption plans include the following:

  • Open Adoption: Stay connected with your child and their adoptive family through regular communication.
  • Semi-Open Adoption: Maintain contact through a third party, such as the adoption agency or attorney.
  • Closed Adoption: Choose not to have ongoing contact, giving yourself and the adoptive family privacy. (This option is rare today, but it might be the best choice if you need to maintain confidentiality.)

While we don’t perform adoption services, we’re here to walk you through this option and can refer you to a reputable agency in the area.
